From Math Teacher to Data Analyst

Since 2004, I have been opening middle and high school students to the world of mathematics; helping them to see that math is not calculation, but a way of understanding the world around us and asking questions in order to dig deeper into the natural beauty of the universe. The true power of mathematics in being able to see, interpret, and communicate the underlying patterns and trends that exist within a set of data, whether that data is a sequence of numbers or the movement of light across the galaxy. Seeking order from chaos is one of the most human things that can be done and mathematics provides a pathway to uncover that order.

I have spent the last 18 years working with hundreds of students, running workshops for educators, and learning and speaking at national conventions about how to better understand and reach an audience of students. In that time, I have been continuously pulled back into the world of analysis, creating spreadsheets and formula to calculate student proficiency and pinpoint areas of focus.

Now, I am seeking to further my journey beyond the realm of education and into other spheres of exploration and understanding. I am looking forward to what secrets can be uncovered by identifying patterns and finding meaning in the chaos.
